LUCID DRONING

TOMTIT are now fulfilling our primary function: to make stuff. The first stuff we have made is an incredibly useful, deeply healing self- help audio exercise which is now available to download through our Bandcamp site for free, and you literally and figuratively can’t get cheaper than that.

We take absolutely no responsibility for any loss of hearing, consciousness, marbles or bladder control as a result of listening to this recording.  Any therapeutic value is deliberate and we invented and retain all rights to whatever it is that is working for you.

We will now take a short break to let it all sink in, but your comments are very welcome.

OPENING ACT

There isn't a lot of information out there about Wilburn Burchette, but that seems somehow appropriate under the circumstances. We know that he was born in 1939, that he has a beard, and that his music is made on a higher plane, a shifting trance like state of consciousness in which he is in union with what he describes as the 'Godhead'.

His albums are super rare, and tread the fine line between New Age and the Occult, between unique visionary art and scary outsider madness. They also have fantastic titles like 'Occult Concert', 'Guitar Grimoire', 'Psychic Meditation Music' and 'Mindstorm'. He's a genius, basically, but he hasn't made an album since 1977. No-one is quite sure why, except Wilburn, but no-one knows where he is. Where are you, Wilburn?

Here are a couple of tracks from his amazing 1973 record 'Wilburn Burchette Opens The Seven Gates Of Transcendental Consciousness'. He does, too.

Amongst other things, the sleevenotes state that 'now you can experience transcendental consciousness without spending ten years in a Tibetan monastery', which, you have to admit, is a pretty sweet deal.

We're going to have to come back to Wilburn. We're obsessed with him.

BASICALLY A CHANNELLED PIECE

'We all need some healing, so let's go for it'

New Age harp sharp Joel Andrews' flashing fingers pick out some inspiration from the ether and send out love and excellent vibes in this impossible to date clip. It could it be from 1979, 1990 or the day after tomorrow - but, guess what, it doesn't matter. As his promotional material says --

'Few harpists come close to Mr. Andrews' superb technical mastery of the harp on which he has discovered
 30 new sounds'

It might just be us, but how much cooler would this already copacetic piece of music have been if, at some point, Joel had segued into this timeless piece of cosmic pluckery?

This is not a 'Star Trek' blog, by the way, it just seems like it sometimes what with us constantly posting 'Star Trek' related items.

Dragging ourselves back to Joel, we particularly like the exhausted but exalted sigh he gives out at the end of the improvisation. He is clearly spent, although not too tired to talk a load of gobbledygook for the next two and a half minutes.

In case you were wondering what really inspires a man like Joel Andrews beyond all the pseudoscientific stuff, the cover of his 1975 LP 'Locrian Invocation' might help you formulate a theory.

'Let light and love and power restore the plan on earth'

Joel is still at it at the age of 85*, and you can buy some of his back catalogue here, including the brilliantly titled 'Emblissening Movement', a smooth accompaniment for Tai Chi exercises from 1986.

*This New Age shit clearly has something going for it.
